Records Management Program
Records Management Program

Government records contain information that is a valuable resource and an important asset. Records document the government's business activities to support future actions and decisions, and provide accountability to present and future stakeholders.

In Alberta, the Minister of Service Alberta is responsible for the government-wide records management program under the Government Organization Act (Schedule 11) and the Records Management Regulation. Provincial government organizations manage their records according to corporate standards, guidelines and policies to support the delivery of their programs and services.

The Regulation also establishes the Alberta Records Management Committee.

The Alberta Records Management Committee is a senior interdepartmental committee with members appointed by the Minister of Service Alberta, which approves records retention and disposition schedules submitted by government organizations, provides advice to the Minister on the management of records in the custody or under the control of government organizations, and may also evaluate the implementation of the records management program. Terms of Reference.

The records management program was reviewed in 2002 by an external consultant. As a follow up to this review, an action plan for 2003-2006 was completed and endorsed by the Alberta Records Management Committee in February 2003.
