A Records Management Training Program is being offered in the Government of Alberta to support the implementation of the Corporate Information Management Framework and compliance with the records management requirements established under the Records Management Regulation.
 


This calendar provides course information and registration instructions for the information management courses developed and offered by  Service Alberta.
 

Basic Records Management Training

The GoA Learning Centre offers the following basic records management courses for Government of Alberta employees. For course information, browse the resources available on the Corporate Human Resources GoA Learning Centre site or visit MyAgent to register in up coming courses.

Records Management and Related Courses
Learn the principles and processes behind records management in the government of Alberta. This series of courses provides foundational training on managing records..

  • Records Management Orientation (AC0290) - Records Management Orientation will give you an overview of the records and information management program in the Government of Alberta and introduce you to basic records management concepts and terminology.
  • Managing Active Records (AC0291) - Managing Active Records builds on the principles of the Records Management Orientation course and teaches you how to use records management tools to effectively manage active hardcopy records systems.
  • Records Disposition (AC0292) - Records Disposition covers the processes and practices involved in the inactive and final disposition phases of the records life cycle.
  • Records Disposition -IRIS - (AC0730) -  The 1 day course provides new users instruction and hands-on practice searching, entering, and submitting boxes of inactive records for transfer in IRIS. Records disposition concepts will not be covered in this course.

Government of Alberta Enterprise Architecture (GAEA) Courses
The GAEA courses are intended for information and communications technology professionals and cover topics such as:

  • EA Overview (AC0493) - The purpose of this training module is to provide you with a general overview of what comprises an Enterprise Architecture.
  • Content Review: Implementing the ICT Strategy (AC0494) - You will be introduced to the principles, guidelines, models, and standards that exist in each of the six GAEA Architecture domains.
  • Practical Architecture Management (AC0495) - You will be introduced to techniques that can improve the alignment of your IT decisions and projects.
  • Business Architecture (AC0706) - The purpose of this course is to provide you with an introduction to the GAEA Business Architecture domain, and how it is being applied within the GoA and the public sector overall.
Managing Information @ Work

Reference booklet
Managing Information @ Work is a reference booklet   that provides employees with a summary of practical tips for effectively managing information and records at each stage of the information life cycle.

Awareness sessions
Managing Information @ Work is also an awareness session that is hosted by some ministries for their employees. These ministries include: Advanced Education and Technology; Energy; Education; Employment and Immigration; Culture and Community Spirit and Tourism, Parks and Recreation.

The general scope of the sessions is based on the information presented in the reference booklet, providing a broad overview of information management at work. Some of the ministries have modified the session to provide additional information that is specific to their employees needs.
